This term position is from December 2024 – January 2026!

Our GIS team supports interactive mapping to empower residents, business owners and the organization to engage with public information and Cochrane-supported applications.  

During this term position, you will have the opportunity to perform on-going maintenance of the Corporate Enterprise GIS, perform spatial analysis, and provide GIS solutions for a variety of organizational departments. Your focus revolves around providing excellent customer satisfaction, a high caliber of service, and ensuring data integrity.

As the Geomatics Technician, you will:
•    Handle the day-to-day responsibilities maintaining the Corporate Enterprise GIS that supports all Geomatics Services activities. Responsibilities include integrating data from external sources into Town databases, converting, importing and exporting of data in and out of the GIS, updating GIS attribute information as data is available, digitizing, analyzing spatial data for a municipal environment, and troubleshooting issues as they arise. 
•    Be responsible for ensuring data integrity and appropriate access of information to end-users, including diagnosing and resolving issues to ensure optimal application performance. Recommends best geospatial solution to meet customer needs.
•    Maintain internal corporate static map documents and web mapping applications.
•    Provide technical expertise for GIS desktop applications and Global Navigation Satellite System data collection (GNSS equipment). 
•    Write concise and accurate technical documentation detailing solution development, recurring processes, metadata, as well as end-user how-to guides.
•    Create and maintain tabular and spatial views, as well as queries used for reporting within a SQL environment.

If many of the following characteristics and skills describe you, we want to meet you!
•    Diploma in Applied Geographical Information Systems or Geomatics Engineering 
•    Recent industry experience, preferably in an enterprise GIS environment
•    Experience working in municipal government would be considered an asset
•    Proficiency in the suite of ArcGIS application technologies (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online/Enterprise Portal, ArcGIS Server) and Microsoft Office
•    Knowledge of Esri field collection applications: ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123
•    Proficiency in fundamental GIS concepts and practices, database design and management
•    Experience with GIS scripting using Python, with knowledge of Esri Arcpy modules
•    Knowledge of Esri Arcade language would be considered an asset
•    Understanding of computer hardware and software systems, computer networks, web-based technologies, e-mail and cloud-based programs
