Job Title: Lead Technologist 

Department: School of Art and Design

Location: College Drive Campus

Status: Permanent Full-Time - Replacement 

Hours Per Week: 37.50 hours

Pay Rate: $42.56/hour

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Broadcast/IT Engineering Technology specializing in TV Broadcast Technology
  • Certificate training and/or workshop certifications in SMSIT including AVID Media Composer, ProTools, Apple and Adobe, Ross Switchers, Newtek, Intercom, Film and Broadcast equipment, Cisco network certification
  • Minimum five (5) years of in-depth knowledge of IP based video and audio technology, transmission systems over fiber, LAN and wireless
  • Thorough knowledge of Video over IP, mixing consoles, HD broadcast television systems and integrated IP based audio-visual systems, including the design of systems and facilities
  • Experience in post-production facilities including knowledge of MAC and PC non-linear video and audio editing
  • Extensive experience with video and audio equipment operation and maintenance
  • Demonstrated time management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Demonstrated experience in customer service/support/relations
  • Demonstrated high level of accuracy and analytical skills
  • Must be able to reliably commute or relocate to North Bay, ON required

 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, modify, customized and fabricate hardware to specification and calibration for use in the School of Art and Design
  • Respond to emergency calls, ensure that the post-production facility is maintained operational for in-class productions and external clients
  • Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program and maintain adequate parts and hardware inventory to effectuate timely repairs
  • Act as technical resources to the School of Art and Design programs by assisting and training faculty, students and staff in the correct operational techniques and set up of equipment and facilities
  • Take steps to ensure that faculty, students, and staff understand the limitations of equipment and facilities
  • Provide operational/safety parameters for media associated equipment
  • Support the technical design and implementation of technology and workflows for the School of Art and Design including professional video and computer hardware both PC and MAC as well as servers and custom broadcast computer systems
  • Recommend equipment, systems, and workflow solutions by consulting with industry best practices, peers, program advisory committee members along with input from faculty, staff, management and vendors
  • Administer network and monitor faculty, student and staff media network accounts and workspaces
  • Install, configure, and support IT systems for media including servers, network infrastructure, storage, security and backup/recovery systems in all programs within the School of Art and Design, classroom labs and edit suites, and occasionally other departments at the College
  • Provide dedicated broadcast Audio, Video and Fiber Optic network support
  • Provide resolutions and final support for technical or workflow issues escalated from students, faculty and staff
  • Recommend work schedules to minimize student impact with changes, additions or modifications to existing systems and processes
  • Advise, communicate, and provide a back out plan should a production process fail during a change
  • Complete proactive and reactive diagnostic analysis and maintenance activities including applying patches, hot fixes, or modifying systems configurations on servicers, switches, or computer hardware
  • Provide statistics and information about current operating environment and make recommendations for upgrades
  • Support relationships with vendors for supplies, parts, and servicing of equipment
  • Assist with the preparation of capital equipment requests including recommendations for capital budget, program expenditures and operational budget
  • Document system settings, services and configurations, technical resource documents, network and infrastructure diagrams, computer location and hardware inventory. 
  • Maintain specialized technical knowledge of broad-spectrum complex computer and broadcast communication systems hardware and software. 
  • Provide recommendations on new technology through testing and evaluating emergency technologies and network solutions
  • Collaborate with end users and management to define business requirements for complex infrastructure plans
  • Other duties as assigned
